Position Overview:
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development of Mechanical engineering and design within multi-discipline EPCM or EPC projects. These projects will range from Concept Design to Execution Designs.
There is an initial requirement to support projects within the nuclear sector. You will also have the opportunity to deliver projects working in other sectors (Oil & Gas, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, and Food), small and large projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers.
2. Drive quality in engineering designs and projects including the checking and approval of design deliverables.
3. Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and other relevant regulations and the appropriate standards and specifications.
4. Manage and complete the mechanical design within the defined scope, time, and budget, including change control and consistency with other disciplines.
5. Participate in internal and external design reviews and ensure design acceptance by the client.
6. Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within the mechanical engineering team.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Hold a qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering, preferably to Degree level (BEng or MEng).
2. Demonstrable experience (5 years plus) as Lead / Senior / Principal Engineer in multi-discipline engineering projects.
3. Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent institute (Preferable).
4. Working knowledge of general engineering standards and specifications (Essential) and nuclear standards and specifications (Preferred).
5. Knowledge of the principles and practices of mechanical engineering and implementing these in design.
6. Understanding and knowledge of other disciplines (Civil, Structural, EC&I, and Process).
7. Experience with the production and/or input to mechanical specifications, basis of design, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, 3D models, schedules, design risk assessments, and directive compliance assessments.
8. Result-oriented with a focus on client satisfaction and quality delivery.
9. Ability to plan and organize activities effectively, understanding dependencies within the mechanical discipline and with other disciplines.
10. Familiarity with main mechanical design packages including AutoCAD, Plant3D, E3D, Caesar II.
11. Implement a solid change control procedure for the team and communicate budget and planning consequences of changes.
12. Lead and motivate the team to achieve targets.
13. Develop and effectively present design packages to the client, ensuring it meets the scope of the job.
14. Prepare for chair design review meetings.
15. Able to meet UK security clearance requirements (SC Clearance Preferable).
