The role of the health navigator will be to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support vulnerable people through the criminal justice systems.
The navigator role is essential, working within police custody in the Worthing area, and helps with assessment and support for both adults and young people. The health and justice navigator will work alongside qualified staff in undertaking assessments and liaising with the police and partner agencies.
The aim of the health and justice service is to support vulnerable people who enter into the criminal justice system with the aim of addressing any health needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The role will entail working as part of a team to support vulnerable people who have been detained in police custody. This can often be a stressful time for individuals, and support may be needed upon release from custody or during court processes. The navigator role will be in a busy police custody setting, working closely with the police and partner agencies.
The role will be part of a multidisciplinary approach to supporting vulnerable people, and the health and justice navigator is a valuable team member. Responsibilities include assessing and supporting vulnerable people, taking a person-centred approach, and considering any risks that may arise.
The role will support the team in formulating assessments for adults and young people. The navigator will work closely with qualified staff members to triage and screen referrals and collaborate on the assessment process. The navigator will handle assessments for adults and young people presenting with lower risks while also supporting discussions around risk management and offering advice to qualified staff members.
An important aspect of the role is liaising with partner agencies, making referrals to other services such as mental health services, social services, drug and alcohol services, support groups, community resources, GPs, and hospitals.

Essential criteria
* NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards) or equivalent experience.
Experience

* Experience of working with a range of vulnerabilities, including mental health, physical health, learning disabilities, abuse, addiction, and social issues.
Desirable criteria
* Experience and/or sound knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
* Experience of working in a community-based setting.
