CLINICAL GROUP SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION
St Barnabas Counselling Centre, known by many as ‘St Bs’ is an accredited BACP service providing a professional low-cost counselling service for adults within Norfolk. We pride ourselves on having a history of over 50 years and are staffed by a team of 30 volunteer counsellors offering counselling to clients in a short or long term capacity. From mid-November 2024 we are looking for a new Group Supervisor to join our dynamic Team and Community.
Being a Group Supervisor at St Barnabas involves:
1. Supervising and professionally supporting 6 St Barnabas counsellors.
2. Advising & collaborating with the Director on professional issues/ practice pertaining to the Centre.
3. Invoicing St Barnabas for services delivered.
The Supervisor will:
1. Provide evidence of on-going training and supervised clinical practice, with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience (Essential)
2. Be a registered member of an accrediting body (e.g. BACP, UKCP) (Essential)
3. Be familiar and abide by the BACP Code of Ethics and Practice or equivalent (Essential)
4. Have the necessary professional liability insurance to deliver their services (Essential)
5. Hold a supervisory qualification or Senior Accredited Supervisor status with BACP or equivalent (Desirable)
6. Have 3 years’ experience of working with supervisees and/or experience of Group Work (Desirable)
7. Engage with the Director where major issues of client safety are involved (Essential)
8. Follow all relevant St Bs policies and procedures relevant to the role (Essential)
9. Attend Group Supervision quarterly with a Supervisor provided by St Bs (Essential)
The duties of the post are:
1. Supervising a group of 6 counsellors. Currently, this takes place for 1.5 hours for 2 Thursdays per month [5.30-7pm]. St Bs reserve the right to change the day/time accordingly to meet the service’s needs and would give at least one month calendar notice if this were required.
2. Supervision may at times include advice or support via phone calls, emails or other electronic platforms.
3. Attendance at consultative and service management meetings (both team and one-to-one) with the Director of Counselling.
4. Participation as required in the selection procedures for supervisors and counsellors.
5. Representing the supervisory team at Board of Trustee meetings and/or Advisory Council meetings if required.
6. Advising the Director of any concerns relating to an individual counsellor, counselling practice within the Centre or other fellow Group Supervisors.
7. Occasional participation in counsellor training, community meetings (second Thursday of the month 5.30-7pm) or team-building days/part-days, as requested by the Director of Counselling.
8. Carrying out supervisees’ 6 month/ annual reviews.
