Specialty Doctor General Adult Community (Rossane)

We are currently seeking two permanent Specialist Doctors in Adult Community Service Division (Rossane House).
The post holder will provide medical expertise and support to the multidisciplinary team working under supervision of consultant psychiatrists based in the quadrant. The appointed candidate would have excellent communication skills and experience of working within multidisciplinary settings. Weekly team meetings, daily hand over and review meetings will be required for all patients in crisis.
The Adult Community Mental Health Service (ACMHS) team provides care to the residents of Welwyn Garden City and the surrounding areas. They also provide support to GPs in the local area through GP plus (Enhanced primary care mental health service). This is facilitated through weekly meetings with GP plus practitioners to triage their referrals and provide specialist Psychiatric input.
2 years experience within psychiatry is an essential criteria for specialty doctor posts, should you not hold this experience you may be interviewed and considered for an alternative posting which will differ in grade and pay.

Main duties of the job
1. To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.
2. To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively and submit this promptly to the Information Department.
3. To participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.
4. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
5. To comply with the Trust's agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the medical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
6. Provision of psychiatric expertise to the team.
7. To undertake outpatient clinics, home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
8. To liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services.
9. To have regular clinical supervision with the consultant psychiatrist. It is the post holder's responsibility to ensure that this is booked.

Job responsibilities
1. Initial Assessments: Assessment, diagnosis, formulation of management plan, and sharing decision-making with patients and carers.
2. Review and re-assessments: Flexible review and re-assessment of patients in response to need, and in accordance with the pathway.
3. Meetings: Communication about patients and carers, sharing organisational policies and objectives.
4. Multidisciplinary reviews: Care programme approach (CPA) reviews and risk reviews.
5. Clinical advice to team: Regular or ad hoc supervision on clinical matters.
6. Liaison with colleagues: Discussion about patient care with primary care, secondary care and colleagues in other psychiatric teams.
7. Section 12: Meeting the requirements of emergency work, MHA assessments, and assessments of capacity.
8. Physical health monitoring: Ensure monitoring for metabolic complications related to medication, Lithium monitoring, and adherence to the Clozapine protocols.
9. Manage caseload: Actively manage outpatient caseloads in accordance with pathway guidance and direction from clinical supervisor. Operate efficient and safe patient review services such as drop in clinics.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
ELIGIBILITY
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
* Section 12/Approved clinician approval.
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* A minimum of 4 years' full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two years of which to be within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry; or have equivalent experience and competencies.
* Minimum of 6 months experience within community services.
* Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry.
* Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to adult mental health services.
ACADEMIC SKILLS LIFELONG LEARNING
* Ability to demonstrate clinical problem solving in interdisciplinary areas.
* Possession of good organisational skills.
* Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Holds a full valid driving license and access to a car (Unless you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995).
* Has actively participated in clinical audit.
