We're looking for a Fire & Security Engineer to join us at Yarl's Wood Immigration Centre in Bedfordshire - a fully contained residential centre housing adult men and women. We focus on decency and respect in all aspects of care for our residents and use continuous innovation to further improve and develop our service. As our new Fire & Security Engineer, you will report into the Facilities Manager and work alongside a team of multi-skilled engineers within the Facilities Services Team to carry out maintenance works in all aspects of security systems. You will carry out system reactive and preventative maintenance works in all aspects of security systems, fire detection, life safety equipment whilst complying with all Health & Safety legislations. You must be able to carry out investigations into the performance of the plant and equipment installed on site and produce related reports and recommendations as may be required. Other key responsibilities will include:
* Assist in specifying and obtaining spare parts/other items of equipment to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the technical estate.
* Ensuring various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained.
* Assisting in multi-trade support of other members of the FM team.

We are looking for someone who has previously worked in a similar role and will be able to hit the ground running upon starting as you will be assisting in multi-trade support within the team. Due to this, we would also consider relevant certifications or licences that will allow you to aid in other areas e.g. minimum electrical/electronic ONC experience or equivalent preferred. Experience within a similar role is an advantage however you must have a proven ability to install, test, commission and service IP & Analogue CCTV Systems, Conventional Access Control Systems, Conventional and Addressable Intruder Detection and Fire Alarm Systems. Key experience and qualifications of interest would include:
* Extensive knowledge of Fire Protection Industry
* Extensive knowledge of large security systems
* Knowledge of BS EN 50131 Alarm Systems
* Knowledge of BS EN 50132 CCTV System
* Knowledge of BS EN 50133 Access Control
* Knowledge of BS5839 Fire Detection Systems
* Knowledge of BS6266 Fire Protection for Electronic Equipment Installations
* IPAF Licences
* Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work
A key part of this role is to be pro-active and this will be achieved by commitment to customer satisfaction and striving for continuous improvement in your working approach, including the ability to prioritise workload, using your own initiative and working in a logical and methodical manner to tight timescales. You will be confident in your ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally. It is important that you have a flexible and common-sense approach to work, as the role will include being a member of the facilities 'Out of Hours' call out roster, and as and when required via Telephone for Technical support.
