Temporary Psychotherapist
Term: December 2024 - December 2025
The WECDSB is currently recruiting for the position of Temporary Psychotherapist. Reporting to the Superintendent of Education K-212 and Mental Health Lead, the psychotherapist will provide the following services/support to our secondary schools:
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Help foster a mentally healthy school environment
2. Provide brief, solution-focused counselling (individual or group sessions)
3. Conduct thorough assessments of students’ current mental health programs, needs, and goals
4. Crisis intervention support as needed
5. Build capacity of school personnel to respond to students presenting with mild mental health concerns
6. Follow established protocols (suicide, safe schools, bereavement, trauma-response)
7. Attend transition meetings and provide support to students returning from community agencies
8. Coordinate services with the multi-disciplinary Board team
9. Work with the Special Education Coordinators and the Mental Health Lead
10. Be available to principals and vice-principals to provide coaching in crisis situations
11. Develop proactive interventions (groups) once student-based needs have been identified
Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in clinical or counseling with a focus on children and adolescents
2. A member of the Ontario College of Social Worker and Social Service Workers, the College of Psychologists of Ontario, or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
3. A valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
4. Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams as well as independently
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
The following would be considered an asset:
1. Experience in the education system
2. Group facilitation skills
3. A.S.I.S.T and/or SafeTALK training or similar experience
4. Familiarity with Google Applications
