Teachmatch are seeking dedicated and experienced Learning Mentors with expertise in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across schools within Herefordshire. As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with teachers, students, and other school staff to implement targeted interventions designed to support the emotional and social development of students. Your role will focus on helping students build emotional resilience, improve social skills, and manage their behaviour effectively, ensuring that each child receives the necessary support to thrive academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide One-on-One and Small Group Support:
* Deliver targeted SEMH interventions to individual students or small groups, focusing on emotional regulation, social skills development, and self-confidence building.
* Implement strategies to support student's behavioural and emotional needs, promoting positive interactions and emotional well-being.
Monitor Student Progress:
* Regularly assess and track student's social, emotional, and behavioural progress, using tailored assessments and adjusting interventions accordingly.
* Provide feedback to students on their progress and areas for improvement, motivating them to develop positive coping strategies.
Collaborate with Teachers:
* Work closely with class teachers and support staff to identify students with SEMH needs and contribute to the development of individualised support plans.
* Provide advice and recommendations to staff regarding strategies and techniques for managing SEMH students in the classroom.
Provide Emotional and Social Support:
* Support students in building emotional resilience and self-regulation skills, enabling them to engage more effectively in learning and school life.
* Promote a positive classroom culture, helping students feel valued and confident in their social and academic abilities.
Support Classroom Learning:
* Assist in creating and maintaining a positive and supportive classroom environment, providing help during lessons and working with students to address both academic and emotional challenges.
* Offer support with classroom organisation, ensuring students with SEMH needs receive the attention and guidance they require.
Promote Inclusion:
* Foster an inclusive and supportive school environment where all students, including those with SEMH needs, feel respected and empowered to succeed.
* Help students to develop appropriate relationships with peers and adults, promoting a sense of belonging and community within the school.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
* Proven experience as a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar support role in education, with a focus on SEMH or behaviour support.
* Experience working with children with SEMH needs and a strong understanding of strategies to support emotional and social development.
* Ability to implement strategies for behaviour management, emotional regulation, and social skills development.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with students, parents, and school staff effectively.
* Empathy, patience, and a commitment to supporting the emotional, social, and academic well-being of students.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
