Description
As part of a small and very busy sensory team, the Sensory Technician is responsible for assisting the Sensory Panel Leaders in all aspects of running our Sensory Panel in Wokingham, Berkshire, including supporting the sensory projects, the preparation, execution, and clean-up in our sensory facility.
The descriptive panel train and test various product categories, such as food, beverage, personal, and household products.
Hours: 21 hours per week: 9am to 12pm Mondays, 8am to 14:00pm Tuesdays to Thursdays. (flexibility on Mondays if extra hours are required).
Location: on-site in the SCC Wokingham
Pay: £13.50 per hour
This is a fast-paced role, and you will need to be organized with strong time management skills as you will work on multiple projects at the same time.
Key Responsibilities
Panel Assisting:
* Preparing and serving all samples/materials for panel training and profiling.
* Being responsible for sourcing and managing the delivery of products for research, including creating an accurate inventory on arrival and storing it correctly.
* Ensuring the Sensory Panel working area is prepared appropriately in good time for each session and cleared/cleaned after.
* Follow, apply, and document appropriate research protocols.
* Ensuring that all activities carried out comply with basic food hygiene standards to work safely within the kitchen. Basic food hygiene training will be provided.
* Maintaining and developing kitchen laboratory Standard Operation Procedures by identifying information needs and problems; recommending improvements; establishing priorities; and training technicians.
* Maintain sensory kitchen/laboratory functionality by checking stock to determine needed supplies/products, placing orders, and verifying receipt of supplies/products.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* A strong team player –able to maintain open and honest relationships with colleagues, building trust and confidence. You will need to be able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
* A self-starter who likes to take initiative and demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic environment (including flexibility in time worked).
* A self-manager - able to switch between tasks according to business needs, cope with changing priorities, and keep UK sensory team members informed of possible issues.
* In possession of excellent interpersonal and communication skills (fluent in written/spoken English is critical)
* Able to be on your feet for prolonged periods and able to lift heavy items (up to 10 kg) when required.

* Natural passion for seeking out the most effective and efficient ways of working and being prepared to speak up about your ideas.
* Great attention to detail – should be able to check own work and others’ work for inconsistencies and take the necessary action to rectify any errors/problems.
* An aptitude for food preparation with limited supervision.
* UK valid driving license and access to a car (desirable).
