A leading manufacturer of cosmetic and personal care products with an award-winning reputation is looking to hire a senior development chemist to their team.
The successful applicant will be working collaboratively with client teams, including brand, innovation, and new product development departments.
Key responsibilities:
1. Work closely with client brand, innovation, and new product development teams to provide input into creating, delivering, and exceeding product briefs.
2. Lead the development of new innovative formulas across the company product portfolio, ensuring technical requirements are met for all products, playing an integral role from inception to launch and beyond, both internally and externally.
3. Proactively investigate, evaluate, and develop new technologies and innovations.
4. Work closely with our suppliers and clients to oversee all new products' formulation, safety, and technical compliance. Manage all formulation-related technical aspects with our manufacturing teams, troubleshoot potential issues, and support other team members.
5. Provide scientific expertise and play an advisory role to ensure projects run smoothly by managing risk assessments and escalating appropriately to the Head of Formulation.
6. Offer support and guidance to other team members while working collaboratively with other Senior Development Chemists to support the Head of Formulation.
7. Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders and key suppliers to strengthen innovation capabilities.
8. Support our regulatory team with product safety and cosmetovigilance.
9. Support our clients' brand, innovation, and NPD teams in developing technical product stories.
10. Identify and educate the team on new materials and ingredients.
11. Attend regular client meetings, which may require domestic and international travel (and overnight stays).
12. Attend domestic and international trade shows to support commercial and business development teams.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
1. A scientific degree or higher, ideally in cosmetic or pharmaceutical science.
2. Demonstrable experience (4 years +) in formulation development, product development, and regulatory affairs, ideally from an R&D lab, contract manufacturer, or beauty brand background.
3. Experience in formulation, Waterless and Innovative Formats is strongly desirable.
4. Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to anticipate issues and provide solutions.
5. Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, with high creativity and attention to detail.
6. A strong understanding of technical and testing requirements.
7. Speed to market and ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up work environment.
8. Results-oriented, with an excellent ability to utilize and manage the organization's resources to achieve goals.
