A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the acute pain team and develop your skills and knowledge in this essential speciality at Ipswich hospital.
The team provides a six-day service (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 8am-1pm) undertaking comprehensive pain assessments, care planning, coordinating treatment options, evaluating response, de-escalation and discharge planning. The management of acute pain results in better patient outcomes in the short and longer term.
In this role no two days are the same. We see patients of all ages, in almost every inpatient area. You could be seeing someone post-surgery, following a trauma, with an acute illness, or with an increase in chronic pain.

If you are ready for a new nursing experience, if you are interested in the management of acute pain, are keen to learn new skills including complex analgesic techniques, analgesia regimes, education of staff and patients, then we would love to hear from you.
You will be responsible for seeing a group of patients, undertaking pain assessments, learning about the patient’s previous pain experiences, and their previous experience with the different analgesic drugs, determining if they are being treated as per the guidelines.
You will assess if the current regime is effective, and you will be recommending changes if needed and supporting the patient to seek adequate analgesia.
You will trouble shoot the side effects of the various drugs. Supporting the patients, nurses and junior doctors with the different treatments and techniques.
For this role you will need a genuineinterest in acute pain management. You will also need a variety of nursing experiences caring for patients with acute illness or post-surgery/trauma. You will support patients who may be experiencing a high level of dis-stress, and to make them feel confident in your ability.
