Teacher of Science
1.0 FTE MPG/UPS
Required from September 2025
This post would suit a newly, or recently qualified, teacher as well as more experienced teachers.
Would you like the opportunity to develop your career, working in a school with good values and proud of its place in the community? We want to appoint someone who will make a significant contribution to our Science Department. We are looking for a knowledgeable, skilled and committed teacher with the enthusiasm and self-belief to support our students as we seek to shape them into scientists capable of understanding the significance of scientific enquiry in our society. We are excited about the potential of our department; our students like science, as shown by strong take up of the Triple Science option at GCSE and by uptake at A Level. Results are good, though we believe we have not yet fully exploited the potential to do even better. We have an established and strong team of specialists who are increasingly flexible at GCSE and most of our laboratories have been refurbished in the last six years.
Required from September 2025 the post carries form tutor responsibilities. This is an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic Science Teacher to teach Science across the age and ability range within a department focused on improvement and high-quality teaching and learning. Ideally, the successful candidate needs to be able to confidently deliver all three disciplines to GCSE (or have the capacity to learn to do so); specialism in Chemistry or Physics to deliver to A Level are preferred given the balance in our existing team. We work closely with our collaborative partners and provide exciting opportunities for professional development.
Our ambitious school is based in the easily accessible market town of Thirsk (recently declared one of the best places to live in England) which lies very close to the A1(M), A19 and mainline rail links, between two beautiful National Parks.
Closing date for applications is 9 am Monday 31st March 2025, although we reserve the right to close our application process early if we get a strong response to this advert.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 2nd April 2025.
Prospective candidates are welcome to visit the school prior to the application deadline. Please contact school using the details below if you wish to arrange a visit.
