Crematorium Technician - PKC
£26, - £29,
Perth Crematorium
An excellent opportunity has arisen at Perth Crematorium for a Crematorium Technician (Permanent, working 36 hours per week) where you will undertake all duties relating to the cremation service including operating and maintaining the Cremators and associated plant in accordance with the Cremation Code of Practice.
You will also liaise with Funeral Directors and multi faith celebrants and assist mourners and members of the public in a sensitive and understanding manner.
You will conduct Chapel attendant duties which are a very important part of the service provided and to carry out associated duties such as general housekeeping and if required to assist with the management of vehicles in the Crematorium carparks.
Your Responsibilities
1. Carry out the cremation process in compliance with the Cremation code of conduct.
2. Carry out burial and cremation administration duties and process cremation, burial and headstone applications, when required.
3. To ensure correct processes and procedures are followed when dealing with cremated remains.
4. Carry out daily, weekly and monthly servicing and the required machinery maintenance schedules to enable correct and safe operation of the cremators and all auxiliary equipment.
5. Report any faults or non-compliance with SEPA regulations to the relevant officer.
6. Be able to effectively fault find and pass information on to Cremator engineers as required.
7. Monitor spare parts register and record any usage, request/order any shortfall of parts.
8. Ensure compliance with internal Fire Safety regulations and carryout weekly tests.
9. Record accurately any communication received from third parties and advise the correct recipient.
10. Carry out the dispersal of cremated remains in the Garden of Remembrance with families in attendance and advise of available memorials.
11. To be competent in the use of all Audio/Visual equipment required during the funeral services.
12. Communicate effectively with the public, Funeral Directors, Management and other crematorium staff members.
13. Ensure that all areas are kept in a clean and safe condition.
14. Carry out car parking management if required.
15. Supplement the grounds maintenance teams and assist with basic gardening duties as required.
16. High level of customer care when dealing with the bereaved.
Skills & Experience Required
You must be able to demonstrate your ability to use computer-controlled machinery.
Ideally, you should be qualified under the ICCM's Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme and have ICCM Certificate of Proficiency in cremation or have the ability and be willing to undertake training to enable you to obtain the necessary certificates for these essential qualifications.
You will have:
17. Experience and knowledge of working with Microsoft applications.
18. Experience in dealing with the bereaved and / or people in emotional situations.
19. Precision and attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy required in processing of all documentation.
20. The ability to work methodically and under pressure to achieve tight deadlines.
21. High level of customer care when dealing with the bereaved.
22. Good communication skills, a good telephone manner and be self motivated.
23. The ability to adhere to written and spoken procedures and instructions.
24. Experience of working methodically under pressure to tight deadlines.
