Job Description
We are currently seeking a Traffic Operator to join our team at our Felixstowe site. As a Traffic Operator, you will manage and monitor the daily activities for our drivers. The main focus is to achieve set targets and ensure the environment runs smoothly and efficiently.
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday, Days
Key duties of Traffic Operator include:
1. Control costs by managing nights out and monitor parking locations.
2. Ensure revenue and cost targets are achieved, and truck earnings are investigated.
3. Daily hours checks and timesheet approval.
4. Ensure costs are correct on the running sheets and investigate anything out of the ordinary.
5. Ensure override dates are correct and revenue is allocated correctly.
6. Take responsibility for containers left on wheels in yards to ensure exports make the intended vessels and empties are returned in time to avoid detention fees.
7. Ensure a pickup leg is put in for anything lifted off and moved into the relevant planning screen.
8. Ensure containers are returned to quay/depot before detention is incurred and prior to vessel cut-offs; escalate to the Planner if there are any issues.
9. Ensure vehicles and relevant information are put on the backload the day before the job.
10. Find ways to make the job more profitable by utilizing one way, tip, and reload.
11. All drivers to be spoken to, and a list of weekend overtime shifts to be given to the Planner by the end of play every Wednesday.
12. Drivers to be given their next day details by 1700 hrs each day where possible.
13. Driver cover sheets to be monitored each day for the next in case of changes.
14. Ensure drivers are trained to use specialized equipment.
15. Ensure any jobs in your screen do not exceed legal weight requirements.
16. Ensure all ATA/ATD's/ETA's and trailer numbers are in Truckcom.
17. Ensure all override dates are set correctly to ensure the sub-contractor trailer report is correct.
18. Monitor ETA's and enter late advices at least 30 minutes before the booking time.
19. Send demurrage warnings once the driver has been on-site for 2 hours.
20. Ensure all vehicles are routed, and every driver is aware of their job and start time.
21. Ensure all OV's and sub-contractors are logged on and using the Truckcom app.
22. Follow service and MOT schedules.
23. Research and understand drivers' legal working hours and update knowledge with internal training if required.
24. Build positive and effective relationships with drivers on your traffic sheet(s) to ensure a content workforce.
25. Oversee, manage, and monitor the daily activities of your allocated drivers.
26. Keep up to date with all relevant legislation and ensure that regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
27. Make decisions in the best interests of the Company and clients; elevate issues to your line manager where necessary.
28. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
29. Minimize operation expenditure within the business wherever possible.
30. Understand and comply with the Health, Safety, and Environment Policy and carry out work in accordance with its requirements.
