Mott MacDonald Bentley are recruiting for a Civil Infra (Pipeline) Discipline Lead to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).
The 330km Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Beyond this, we have a further 260km of water transfer pipelines and associated infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.
What will you be doing as our new Civil Infra (Pipeline) Discipline Lead?
The Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) is a ~£1.8Bn framework delivering 500km+ of transfer pipelines, with associated storage and pumping assets, across the East of England supporting reduction of abstraction in sensitive aquifers and significant regional growth.
In this role, you would be the technical lead for the infrastructure pipeline design across the SPA framework supporting the delivery of the SPA programme. You will be required to complete design activities to support efficient, safe, and environmentally sound construction.
You will be the recognised ‘go-to’ person within SPA for technical input around pipeline design activities and issues, ensuring quality and consistency of design function outputs and leading improvement activities to support efficient delivery of SPA infrastructure pipeline elements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Lead the pipeline design discipline ensuring outputs are of a suitable quality and consistency.
2. Support onboarding of new pipeline design staff, and development of existing pipeline design staff, with technical training and details to set out SPA design expectations.
3. Lead production and ownership of Standard Products, Standard Details, and Design Guides to drive efficiency and consistency of outputs.
4. Represent the SPA engineering team in key technical meetings and support programme decision making for pipeline technical elements.
5. Provide check or review function for design outputs ensuring technical quality standards are maintained.
6. Support the engineering teams with resolution of complex technical issues relating to the infrastructure pipeline design.
7. Work closely with SPA partners and supply chain to ensure the civil infra (pipeline) function is suitably resourced to support SPA programme.
8. Work collaboratively with other SPA functional teams to ensure pipeline design outputs meet wider project delivery requirements.
9. Engage with the SPA delivery teams and procurement teams to drive programme efficiency within the Infrastructure pipeline area, ensuring improvement initiatives are technically sound and appropriately assessed for acceptance.
A little bit about your skills, experience and behaviours:
This job might be for you if you are:
1. Educated to degree level in an engineering or related subject.
2. Experienced in technical design of large diameter transfer pipelines, including steel and polyethylene materials.
3. Experienced in a design and build environment, and temporary works design.
4. Able to communicate technical requirements and expectations.
5. Able to operate independently with resilience, adaptability, and flexibility.
