Food Standards Scotland (FSS), as a non-ministerial office within the Scottish Administration, focuses on consumer protection by ensuring food safety, providing transparency about food contents, and improving nutrition.
The Enforcement Delivery Branch, part of the Local Authority Delivery Division, supports Local Authority enforcement of food law through direct engagement with Environmental Health colleagues, provision of expert advice, and producing enforcement guidance.
The Senior Enforcement Manager posts are responsible for ensuring appropriate support for Local Authority Environmental Health teams in relation to the delivery of food law enforcement. This involves engaging with Environmental Health colleagues across Scotland, providing expert food law advice and technical support to field officers, assisting with Scottish National Database (SND) activities, offering technical guidance to FSS and Scottish Government teams, and producing food law enforcement guidance.
Responsibilities
* Lead a portfolio of work in key areas such as risk management advice, technical advice on high-risk manufacturing, approved establishments, food standards, allergens and hypersensitivities, primary production, and novel foods.
* Provide updates to Local Authorities and associated professional bodies at seminars, events, and committees on projects and portfolio of work.
* Provide expert technical and risk management advice to relevant teams within FSS.
* Collaborate with other project managers across the Enforcement Delivery team and FSS to ensure a coordinated approach to delivery.
* Communicate relevant updates to the Food Standards Scotland Board, Scottish Ministers, and key officials in other government departments in a timely and effective manner.
* Liaise regularly with Local Authorities, Management Information System (MIS) providers, and digital contractors regarding SND developments.
* Provide general support within the team, including assisting Local Authority officials, attending Liaison Group Meetings, and addressing queries promptly.
Qualifications
Diploma in Environmental Health awarded by the Royal Environmental Health Institute in Scotland (REHIS), or equivalent; or Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection awarded by REHIS and the Higher Certificate in Food Standards awarded by REHIS, or equivalent; or Higher Certificate in Food Control awarded by REHIS, or equivalent.
