General Operative Location: Romsey Salary: £12.57 - £13.28 per hour Hours: Either 7.00am till 15.00pm or 8.00am till 16.00pm Contract: Temporary Why join our client? Your role As a General Operative, you will carry out essential maintenance tasks across public spaces, helping to keep streets, parks, and local areas clean and well-maintained. Whether emptying bins, litter picking, or grass cutting, your work will directly improve the community. Key duties include: Emptying domestic and litter bins in line with service standards Using basic tools such as litter pickers, push mowers, pedestrian sweepers, strimmers, and brooms Acting as a reversing assistant for colleagues when required Issuing information tags and completing relevant records Representing the council positively while carrying out tasks Working independently or as part of a team to meet service commitments What we’re looking for Skills and experience: Ability to work alone for long periods or as part of a team Flexibility to undertake different tasks in various locations Strong communication skills (written and verbal) Experience in a similar role, such as waste management or grounds maintenance Experience using manual handling tools and equipment Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions Requirements: A full UK driving licence may be required for some roles Knowledge of local government environmental services is beneficial Why this role?
