Patients, especially those in severe distress Provide pastoral, religious and spiritual support for patients and relatives, especially the seriously ill, the dying and the bereaved, ensuring the support is available at all times and is provided by the team of on-call volunteer chaplains, which includes the Trust/Site Chaplain. Chaplains will be required to offer support to the distressed parents of seriously ill, still born, or miscarried babies. The chaplains may be requested to baptise or bless babies. At times, pastoral support will be required for couples who face difficult decisions about their baby. Chaplains are available to help bereaved parents choose a suitable ceremony for their baby. The chaplain may lead that ceremony for them or involve the appropriate parish clergy. It is essential that the deceased, whether adults or babies, are treated with respect and dignity. The Trust/Site Chaplain will be involved in the provision of memorial services that relate to baby loss. Regularly visit patients on the wards. Provide sacraments at the bedside as required. Keep records of all significant encounters with patients during these visits. It is also essential that accurate records are kept of callouts, blessings, baptisms, funerals or other public ceremonies. The Trust/Site Chaplain must ensure that all chaplains respect the requirements of confidentiality and data protection. Staff Provide pastoral and spiritual support to staff whose duties daily involve the care of the seriously ill, the dying and the bereaved. The Chaplain will be aware of the Cultural and religious diversity of our staff. Meet the faith requirements of patients and staff within the Trust. When necessary, the Trust/Site Chaplain should liaise with other appropriate faith representatives. Be familiar with the main religious faiths found in a modern multi-cultural society and be a resource within the Trust with this knowledge. Other responsibilities Maintain and develop their spiritual and theological skills through prayer, study, analysis and interpretation. Lead chaplaincy team meetings and encourage training, so that other chaplains develop their own ministry within the hospital. Ensure that the chaplaincy team complies with Trust policies and procedures, mandatory training requirements, and codes of conduct and accountability. The Trust/Site Chaplain will support in the development of an annual report and will promote the Chaplaincy service both internal and external to the Trust. The Trust/Site Chaplain may occasionally be required to handle small collections and donations
