The above part time (0.2 FTE) is available from Aug 2025 on a fixed term basis for 2 years, in the Doctoral Clinical PGR Programmes Portfolio within the Department of Psychology and Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS). This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working some time on campus and some from home.

The role
We are seeking to appoint a part time (0.2 FTE) Research Director for the Forensic Psychology Doctorate (Senior Lecturer) which is available from August 2025 on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
Main duties of the job
Main purpose of the job:
You will have responsibility, with the support of the Programme Director and DClinPGR Portfolio Director, for managing and monitoring the research aspects of the programme and their associated operational administration, curriculum development, and quality management and enhancement (including accreditation / registration by relevant professional institutions where appropriate). You will work with the Programme Director/ Director of Portfolio as appropriate to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the research elements of the programme in accord with the Faculty's education strategy and implementing the External Affairs strategy.
The research curriculum, under the University of Exeter's Doctorate in Forensic Psychology (DForenPsy) programme, aims to enable trainee Forensic Psychologists to become evidence-based sophisticated consumers and producers of forensic and applied research. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced research trainer who will be dedicated to the leadership task of preparing future Psychologists to become ethical and effective research-skilled Scientist Practitioners. We are looking for the successful candidate to have evidence of conducting research and scholarship of national/international standing in a relevant area aligned to the interests of the DForenPsy.
Job responsibilities
Main duties and accountabilities:
1. Responsibility for managing the research components of the DForenPsy, including oversight of day-to-day operational processes (e.g. timetabling, assessment, examination systems), and programme accreditation / registration processes.
2. Responsible for compliance with key external performance indicators for successful delivery of research elements of the programme as required by PSRBs such as the HCPC and BPS.
3. Work with the DForenPsy Programme Director by reporting on all research governance aspects of the DForenPsy at the Programme Strategic Management Group (SMG).
4. Ensure the systematic provision of high-quality research elements of the programme in forensic psychology, specifically to plan, oversee and audit the research components of the DForenPsy programme and ensure processes are compliant with PGR policy and practice as outlined in the University TQA manual.
5. Teach a range of research material on the programme (specify as needed).
6. Develop, promote and implement innovative teaching practices (with support from our Teaching Quality Assurance and Enhancement department), including technology-enhanced learning.
7. Oversee the monitoring of trainee research progress and provide advice and guidance to Research Tutors and trainees as appropriate, including oversight of the needs of trainees with special requirements and processes pertaining to mitigating circumstances.
8. Engage with DClinPGR, the Department and University Centre in working groups and committees as required.
9. Manage the work of the Research Tutor Team, including supervision, training and induction of Research Tutors.
10. Coordinate and support the work of programme convenors and external teachers in relation to the research elements of the programme.
11. Chair appropriate programme committees overseeing the research programme.
12. Contribute to other administrative duties as directed by the DForenPsy Programme Director and/or DClinPGR Director.
Person Specification
Experience
* Have experience of managing teams and/or functions in a busy environment with conflicting priorities.
* Have experience of teaching, quality management and enhancement ideally in an HE environment.
* Experience of working across agencies, both NHS or non-NHS as a researcher or in an HE environment.
* Experience of postgraduate research teaching and supervision.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
* Participation at national level in relevant professional leadership e.g. with the BPS or DFP, or with other PSRBs.
* Experience of working as a forensic psychology trainer on forensic psychology training programmes at a senior lead level.
* Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications
* PhD/Professional Doctorate in Forensic Psychology or related discipline.
* Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge relating to the discipline in order to teach and support learning within the area.
* Forensic Psychology and eligible for Chartered Clinical/Forensic Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society.
* Evidence of sustained continuing professional development and practice.
£50,694 to £64,235 a year. The post may attract a market supplement, in line with AfC 8c.
