A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced full-time live-in Sole Gardener to maintain and develop a beautiful 5-acre garden in South Shropshire. The stunning gardens provide a complimentary frame for the stone building itself which sits within a hamlet of 12. The property is part of a wider estate mainly farmland and run shoots.

The role and responsibilities include:
1. Maintaining and enhancing formal gardens, including flower beds, borders, lawns, and hedges.
2. Overseeing and managing the vegetable gardens, ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce throughout the year.
3. Caring for the large greenhouse, including propagation, planting, and maintenance of a wide range of plants.
4. Conducting regular pruning, weeding, mulching, and pest management across the garden.
5. Developing and implementing seasonal garden plans to maintain the garden’s visual appeal and productivity.
6. Carrying out general garden-related maintenance tasks, such as watering, composting, and managing waste.
Additional duties include:
* Caring for and maintaining the property’s pathways, outbuildings, and other garden structures.
* Clearing all gutters on the property.
* Ensuring tools, equipment, and machinery are well-maintained and safely stored.
* Providing occasional dog-sitting services for the family’s pets (3 dogs and 2 cats) when required, including feeding, walking, and general care.
The successful candidate will be a practical hands-on gardener, with proven experience in horticulture and garden management, preferably on a private estate or similar property. Knowledge of formal and kitchen garden care, greenhouse management, and plant propagation is essential. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise tasks are required, as well as being physically fit and willing to undertake outdoor work in all weather conditions. Applicants will have a proactive and flexible attitude and a flair for continuing to enhance the garden as required.
Accommodation is provided rent-free – a newly renovated 2 bedroom (double) old granary in a separate courtyard with utilities paid by the employer. Partners are welcome and pets will be considered.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and competent Sole Gardener to work for friendly owners, and to take pride in a beautiful private estate garden in a beautiful part of the country.
