Engineering Team Lead

Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience + up to 20% annual bonus

Given our expertise within the company and across the group we aim to be the leader in the space, and in order to do that we need a team of people who can not just write quality code but can think, create and challenge others to come up with the best solutions for our customers. We are an ambitious team with a pretty big ‘to do list’ including improving existing products, building new ones and delivering to new markets.
We are looking for an Engineering Team Lead to join our high performing team and play a key role in delivering world-class financial software for our partners and clients. In this role, you will manage multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and the performance and development of team members. You’ll be responsible for maintaining delivery commitments while adapting to the evolving needs of the business. Delivery
* Responsible for the cohesion, culture and output of your teams
* You own delivery within your teams, partnering with Product Owners to help identify and plan high-value deliveries; ensuring their successful delivery
* Driving a culture of continuous improvement
* Agile champion, not just in process but in sprit
* Escalating and dealing with issues and risks proactively
* Communicating timelines and commitments to stakeholders
* Ensure engineers are free to commit as much time as possible to their engineering commitments
* Redirecting tasks and initiatives to other team members, for growth, balance or scaling
People
* Taking ownership of the well being and career development of each member of your teams
* Capable of leading one or more teams of multidisciplinary engineers independently
* Mentoring & Coaching both in terms of culture, delivery excellence and behaviours
* Identify training needs for future planning
* Regular structured 1-2-1s including the setting of personal objectives and goals
* Proactively manage performance and motivation within your teams
Technical
* Solid experience as a Software Engineer, at least to Senior Level
* Comfortable in a hands on environment, should the need arise
* A background in one or more of the following;
o Java
o Postgres
o Spring Boot
o AWS
* The ability to read, understand and review code when necessary
* Supporting the Technical Lead in understanding best practice, for example;
o SOLID
o XP
o Design Patterns
o TDD
* To understand the necessity for maintaining Tech Debt
* To defend or challenge team estimates
* Ensuring that software has been developed to the agreed appropriate level of quality.
Metrics & Reporting
* Providing visibility on progress and issues to Head of Product Engineering
* Recording and tracking of metrics / key performance indicators (a quantifiable measure of performance over time for a specific objective)
* Track team efficiency and quality of deliverables, adjusting processes and timelines to ensure high quality is delivered
