We have a vacancy for a part-time Cancer Support & Community Engagement Worker with experience of working within, developing and delivering culturally sensitive support services primarily however not exclusively for African and Caribbean community members; networking, developing and maintaining relationships/partnerships with key stakeholders, i.e., community members/groups, voluntary sector organisations, mainstream cancer support organisations, health professionals.

With excellent communication skills and the ability to identify, create, develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with a range of key stakeholders.

The Role
To deliver a local support hub via effective community engagement, that enables service users to create and access personalised positive pathways through their cancer journey.
* Develop, promote, coordinate and deliver a culturally appropriate support hub that enables service-users to shape and access personalised positive pathways through their cancer journey. This will include facilitating a support group and service user-led ‘Move On’ programme.
* Develop relationships with service-users, identify needs, provide 1:1 support and information/advocacy to access services and opportunities.
* Develop a programme of hub activities e.g. wellbeing, monthly welfare benefit drop-ins in partnership with Macmillan, creative workshops, training, patient voice activities, community champion opportunities.
* Attend community/local networking meetings and events to publicise CSUK and its support hubs/groups.
* Identify a pool of culturally appropriate, experienced and professional facilitators and book as needed e.g. yoga practitioners; creative writing/ artistic/ therapeutic practitioners – in liaison with finance and business administrator.
* Identify and support service users and wider community members to access CSUK volunteering and community champion training opportunities.
* Fundraising (identifying and securing small pots of funding via local funding and community businesses).
Conduct and gather monitoring and evaluation data, report writing.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will be empathetic, patient, flexible, adaptable, eager and willing to respond to changing demands and priorities. You will have experience of developing and delivering support services, community engagement, exceptional organisational, inter-personal, communication, IT and writing skills, and an enthusiasm to support the growth of culturally appropriate cancer support provision in Salford. You will have a high understanding of and ability to demonstrate confidentiality.
Your professional and friendly approach will promote the values of Can-Survive UK and you will be able to communicate with key stakeholders both internally and externally allowing you to build sustainable relationships and partnerships.
Essential experience includes: A track record of working within African and Caribbean and other culturally diverse, marginalised and disadvantaged communities experiencing cancer and other health inequalities; working within and understanding the voluntary/charity sector, developing, coordinating, and delivering community projects, working as a team, as well as experience of working to procedures, processes and policies.
