To provide highly skilled Orthoptic services to aid in the diagnosis and management of all types of ocular motility disorders as well as Biometry measurements prior to cataract surgery. Training will be provided. To provide these services as an autonomous practitioner to Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Aintree site and to work closely with the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery. To use advanced specialist skills, knowledge and experience to provide a high quality, comprehensive and highly specialised Orthoptic service to patients with complicated and routine ocular motility defects within the Ophthalmology Directorate.
To independently diagnose all cases of ocular motility defects and develop effective treatment plans, referring to other Health Care Professionals and Doctors as required. To provide additional specialist clinical skills, beyond the scope of Orthoptics, to aid diagnosis and development of treatment plans within the Department of Ophthalmology. To provide specialist advice and act as a source of expertise on the management of Ocular Motility disorders and provide advice regarding additional specialist technical services to Consultants, Junior Doctors, Highly Specialist and Specialist Nurses, and other Health Care Professionals and Medical staff.
To educate and provide clinical teaching and assessments to undergraduate orthoptic university students, optometrists, ophthalmologists, health care professionals, doctors, and other medical personnel. To ideally hold a recognised clinical teaching certificate. To work collaboratively and co-operatively with other clinicians to influence service development and ensure quality care is delivered.
