Offer Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Research Software Engineer to support our research in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Civics. This role will contribute to various research activities, including our EPSRC Centre for Digital Citizens, but will be particularly focused on our UKRI-funded AI Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) which, over the next eight years, will train 60 PhD researchers in citizen-centred approaches to AI.
As a Research Software Engineer, you will play a key role in our software engineering team, contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of research software. You will also provide consulting support for cross-disciplinary research teams, mentor doctoral training students in their own software development, and contribute technical expertise to research funding applications. The role involves a range of activities, including research software design, development, evaluation, data analysis, and dissemination. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in novel interaction design, ubiquitous technologies (e.g., mobile, wearable, and IoT devices), AI-driven research, and large-scale research platform deployments.
You will be based in the Northumbria Social Computing research space within the newly established School of Computer Science, collaborating across disciplines, including with PaCT Lab (Psychology), Co-Create (Design), and researchers at partner institutions.
The position is fixed term until 30th September 2032.
