This post would provide an excellent development opportunity for someone wishing to broaden their experience in an area of quality improvement. Whilst not essential, a clinical background would be advantageous.
Clinical audit is an essential part of the Trust's clinical governance programme and we are looking for someone to play an active part in the ongoing development of clinical audit & improvement and the promotion of evidence based practice.
Main duties of the job
The main component of the role will be to manage a number of clinical audit projects, producing work to a high standard, with the ability to support, advise and facilitate healthcare professionals in the planning and design of robust projects. Your duties will involve liaising with clinicians and managers at all levels, and assisting in the design, data collection, analysis, reporting and presentation of clinical audit projects and identifying opportunities where improvement programmes can be introduced. You should be able to work under pressure, meet agreed deadlines, and be capable of organising your own workload.
Job responsibilities
* Ensure completion of timely, accurate, valid and reliable effectiveness & audit projects in line with the clinical audit programme and other requirements.
* Assist with the development of clinical effectiveness & audit across the Organisation.
* Work with Divisional colleagues to ensure clinical audit work programmes are in place and completed.
* Co-ordinate and lead on clinical audit projects to meet external requirements e.g. CQC, National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme.
* Co-ordinate and lead on clinical audit projects to meet Trust priorities.
* Work closely with the Clinical Governance Team Leader to embed processes and completion of clinical audits within Divisions/Specialties.
* Ensure high quality records are maintained within the central clinical audit database and produce reports for various Trust Groups/Committees (i.e. Clinical Audit and Effectiveness Group, Divisional meetings, Quality Committee, Clinical Improvement Group) and within Trust publications (i.e. Annual Quality Report).
* Work with the Clinical Governance Team Manager to develop and implement clinical audit projects, including action planning, using Trust approved processes.
* Co-ordinate the review and assessment of NICE guidance.
* Undertake/facilitate various aspects of the audit process, including:
o Completion of project plan and summary report
o Identification of standards
o Define aims & objectives
o Audit methodology and sample using the most appropriate method
o Design of data collection tools and surveys
o Data analysis
o Reporting and presentation of results
o Action planning
o Change implementation
o Re-audit
* Ensure Clinical Audit representation at designated Divisional audit/Clinical Governance meetings as appropriate.
* Contribute to Trust clinical audit training.
Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* Educated to Hons degree level or equivalent in risk or governance, or equivalent experience
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Experience in clinical audit or a related field. Knowledge and practical experience of all stages of the audit cycle and experience of change management.
* Presenting information to committees and senior management
* Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them.
* Experience of working in a complex changing environment and the ability to prioritise
* Experience of dealing with service wide policy implementation or change management projects
* Understanding of Confidentiality & Data Protection Act
* Good understanding of information analysis, techniques and tools and the ability to present concepts clearly
* Excellent written skills to produce formal, informal and technical documents/material to meet delivery needs
* Responsible for contributing to the planning and organisation of forward programme of clinical audit.
* Understanding of the quality standards applicable to the NHS (e.g. CQC / FT / commissioner requirements)
* Knowledge of legislation and standards relating to health & safety, security, complaints, claims and incidents.
* Required to co-ordinate the involvement of clinicians in facilitating the implementation of National Standards/Guidelines
* Required to co-ordinate the involvement of clinicians in planning and facilitating the National Audits for Trust
* Excellent analytical and report writing skills
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

* Staff and team leadership skills
* Plan, organise and deliver clinical audit training and teaching
* Planning/chairing meetings to initiate the development of projects, to provide feedback on project progress and to present and discuss the results of the audits
