The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Type 31 Project will deliver 5 general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec .
Day-to-day, you’ll help with the general Equipment Installation, Basic Milling and Drilling Operations, Equipment and System Testing including Hydraulic/Pneumatic Systems. You will also help with the Interpretation/Transfer of Info from Mechanical Drawings and Specs, Pipework System Install, Dismantle and Reassembly, Mobile Plant Maintenance and Hydraulic Systems Maintenance.
1. Installation of mechanical systems & equipment including shock and non-shock mounted items
2. Systems installation covering: Shaft-line, Power Generation, Prime movers, Assorted valves, pumps etc.
3. Removal of mechanical equipment
4. Familiar with production output materials such as compartment layouts and detailed dimensional instructions, routing schematics, P&ID’s, etc.
This position involves working in confined spaces and heights. Candidates must be able to work comfortably and perform tasks in restricted spaces and heights.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday - Thursday (overtime and nights available) and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter
5. Recent and relevant experience working in a similar environment
6. Experience working within environment with energised equipment, aware of isolation & safe systems of work requirements
7. Open mind to change (supporting Composite working environment)
8. Must be willing to develop self through training to support programme requirements
9. Able to read Engineering Drawings
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter
10. ONC or equivalent in Mechanical Engeneering
