THE ROLE The editorial team are at the heart of the drama offscreen and work passionately in a dynamic environment to help bring River City's sensational scripts to life. Reporting to the Story Producer, the focus of the role is to help deliver high quality, high profile and cost-effective drama through planning and commissioning the documents to strict deadlines. Under the guidance of the Story Producer and working alongside the Story Team, the Storyliner generates and writes imaginative and captivating story ideas, collectively developing new story and character proposals, ensuring that the material is factually accurate, confidently adjusting and reworking the documents from first draft through to commissioning and consistent with the high standard drama of River City. Understanding the programmes creative vision is key to generating and developing our storylines. Our story conferences, planning and commissioning meetings are designed to share as a team our current and future imaginative proposals to work together to continue creating our outstanding narrative. The story team require an understanding of the importance of diversity in our on-screen content, ensuring diverse groups are portrayed accurately and appropriately, and in line with BBC Editorial Guidelines. WHAT DOES IT TAKE? To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following criteria - • Extensive Storylining, Story Editor, Script Editing or Writing experience within drama television or theatre • Strong skills in Microsoft Office including, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint • An ability to write clear, concise and unambiguous prose in keeping with the River City in-house style • A proven ability of being able to write to a high-quality standard, and an excellent eye for detail and continuity • An enthusiasm, demonstrable interest and understanding of drama, especially River City • A thorough and demonstrable understanding of character, story and structure • An awareness of the financial impact of different storylines • Proven ability to persuade, influence and resolve differences in professional opinions LIFE AT BBC STUDIOS We don't focus simply on what we do - we also care how we do it.
