We’re supporting our client, a leading automation company based in Beccles, who are looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Commissioning Engineer will have experience of programming PLC’s and HMI’s and strong electrical skills.
Position Overview: As a Commissioning Engineer, you'll be part of a dedicated team whose primary focus is to transition the company’s automated equipment from completion of build through to customer inspection and sign-off. There will be requirement from time-to-time to support installation on client sites, however, this role is mostly site-based.
Responsibilities for Commissioning Engineer:
1. Programme and modify control systems using PLC’s, Servo drives, robots, and other specialised controllers specific to customer requirements.
2. Troubleshoot and adjust mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and controls equipment.
3. Fault finding and operational assessment of mechanisms both in isolation and in complex form.
4. Modifying systems through electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or software means to enhance performance.
5. Identify opportunities to improve a system with a view to presenting these to other team members.
6. Perform tests, using structured processes, to build a defined understanding of a mechanism’s limitations.
7. Record test results in suitable manner such that they can be used to support the necessity/ direction of further work.
8. Ensure records of all modifications are documented correctly.
9. Provide proactive feedback to project team to enable project progress to be determined.
10. Participate in internal design reviews on existing or potential projects.
11. You may be required to attend and work at customer premises throughout the UK and overseas.
About You:
1. Relevant vocational training or completion of a recognised apprenticeship in electrical and or mechanical discipline.
2. Experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) using software’s such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Festo, Codesys, Siemens.
3. Knowledge of setting up Servos, VFD’s, Remote I/O, Ethernet and Profibus networks.
4. Proven electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical experience within the automation industry.
5. Ability to follow electrical and pneumatic schematic diagrams and drawings.
6. Knowledge of 6 Axis Robot systems is preferred.
7. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
8. The ability to work on your own initiative from an outline brief.
9. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
12. Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and applicable regulations and guidelines.
13. Identify and understand the requirements of the internal customer.
14. All round proficiency in communication.
15. Maintaining a clean paper free working environment.
16. Keeping up to date with company procedures and news.
17. Understanding and working with the company’s core values.
18. Compliance with security procedures and health and safety.
