There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Durham Division, located in Houghton-le-Spring, is looking to recruit a Trainee Buyer to join the Division’s Commercial department.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial Director, the role of Trainee Buyer supports with the day-to-day monitoring of procurement costs for the division, compliance with group purchasing arrangements, collection of rebates, and the setting and monitoring of materials budgets to deliver the business unit output in the most timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
* Assist with the procurement of all directly purchased materials and hired plant to deliver new homes in accordance with the regional forecast, including taking off and scheduling materials from working drawings where required.
* Placing orders for and dealing with site-generated requisitions and replacements.
* Liaising with suppliers to ensure best value is achieved.
* Managing individual workload on a daily/weekly basis.
* Assist with preparing and updating materials budgets for individual developments.
* Assist with the production of various KPI reports such as site damage, plant use, site waste, and buyers group reports.
* Ensuring compliance with Bellway Group Procedures in all instances.
* Support with the implementation and maintenance of Group Agreements.
* Support with preparation of tender packages and enquiries and analyse quotations.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Preferred Experience
* Previous experience with a housebuilder or large construction organisation; however, we welcome applications from all sectors of the construction industry.
* Someone eager to grow and build a career within the housebuilding/construction industry.
Qualifications and Training
* GCSE English and Mathematics grade A-C/4+ or equivalent.
Skills and Aptitude
* Strong communication and listening skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to work on own as well as part of a team.
* IT literate, proficient in MS Word and Excel with the ability to adapt to new systems.
* Ability to work to deadlines under pressure.
* Able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
