Role Summary As a Communications Officer at Good Shepherd, you will play a key role in promoting the charitys work, amplifying our mission, and engaging a broad range of audiences, from individual supporters to businesses, schools, and community groups. Your work will support our mission to tackle homelessness and poverty through effective storytelling, brand building, and strategic communication. Whats most important is that you share our values and believe in our mission of ending homelessness, supporting recovery, and creating pathways out of poverty. Main Duties and Responsibilities Work with the management team to create an annual marketing and communications plan that contributes to the organisations business plan and strategy. Support the team to produce a marketing and communications plan for Pomegranate Café. Managing social media accounts for the Good Shepherd and Pomegranate Café, overseeing the creation of engaging content to increase our reach and engagement. Create compelling, multi-channel content such as blogs, newsletters, press releases, case studies, videos, podcasts, and infographics that share the charitys impact and inspire action. Develop powerful stories and case studies of those who have benefited from the work of the Good Shepherd. Coordinate with service users, volunteers, and staff to gather stories and insights to use in content. Oversee and regularly update the website with fresh content, such as news stories, events, reports, and charity appeals. Work with the Fundraising Manager to create and distribute a newsletter to stakeholders and supporters. Support in the creation of presentations and promotional material. Use the stakeholder engagement plan and mailing list to create targeted comms for groups including businesses, schools, and faith groups etc. Build and maintain relationships with local and national media outlets to secure coverage for campaigns, events, and success stories. Draft press releases, respond to media enquiries, and act as a spokesperson Collaborate with influencers and public figures to amplify the charitys message and gain visibility. Work closely with the Operations Manager, HR/ Admin Team Leader and volunteer coordinator to ensure all internal communications align with the charitys mission and objectives. Work with the CEO and Operations Manager to develop and manage crisis communication plans, responding promptly to sensitive issues related to homelessness or the charitys operations. Person Specification Experience and Knowledge Marketing and Communications Experience: Demonstrated experience in a marketing, communications, or public relations role, ideally within the charity, non-profit, or social enterprise sectors. Digital and Social Media Management: Proven experience managing social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), including content creation, community engagement, and performance monitoring. Content Creation: Strong ability to produce engaging, multi-channel content, including blogs, newsletters, case studies, film and edit video, podcasts, and infographics. Graphic Design Skills: Basic graphic design skills for creating visual content using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar. Website Management: Experience in managing and updating websites. Analytical Skills: Competence in analysing social media and website performance metrics, using tools such as Google Analytics and Meta Suite and adjusting strategies to improve engagement and visibility. (Desirable) Media Relations: Experience working with media outlets to secure press coverage, draft press releases, and respond to media enquiries. (Desirable) Campaign Development: Experience supporting the development and execution of marketing or fundraising campaigns, with a focus on creating effective, results-driven communications. Experience in the Charity Sector: Prior experience working within the charity, homelessness, or social care sectors.
