Glasgow Women’s Aid provides information, support and temporary accommodation for women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. We have refuge accommodation, follow on services and outreach services both for women and children across Glasgow.
The purpose of this role is to support our Women’s Team with providing a support service to women who are living in our refuges. You will support women being admitted into refuge and will respond to the practical and emotional needs of women as required. Although you will not be a key worker, you will attend appointments with women, signpost and advocate for them and support the running of our group work programmes.
It is essential that you have experience of providing support to women who have experienced trauma or crisis. A suitable qualification that meets with SSSC Housing Support registration is also required (examples would be HNC Social Services or SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Healthcare). The nature of our work requires a commitment to the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and to the values of Glasgow Women’s Aid.

This is a busy role within our Enough! project that delivers support for young women experiencing domestic abuse in their own relationships. You will work with young women aged 13 to 21 years old, providing person-centered therapeutic support. Many of our young women have complex needs including care leavers and young mums. You will support the young women by working alongside partner agencies to advocate for them to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will deliver a group work programme and will be part of the dedicated evening drop-in for the service. Part of your role will be to raise awareness of domestic abuse among young women and deliver prevention work. You will manage referrals, waiting lists, support plans and case records.
It is essential that you have experience of providing support to young women who have experienced gendered based violence and that you have experience of providing 1-1 person-centered support. Knowledge of the court system would be desirable. A suitable qualification relevant to working with children and young people, such as SVQ Level 3 Social Service (Children and Young People) is also essential. Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid is seeking to recruit a women’s worker to provide support to vulnerable women who have experienced domestic abuse. Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid supports women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, and honour-based abuse primarily from the Asian, Black and Minority Ethnic community.
Experience of working with women and knowledge and understanding of the impact of domestic abuse, forced marriage and honour-based abuse on women from minority ethnic backgrounds is required. A suitable qualification that meets the needs of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) housing support registration is required; otherwise, training will be provided.
The nature of our work requires a commitment to the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and values of Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid. We are looking for someone who is passionate, motivated, kind and calm who can work productively as part of a forward-thinking, problem-solving team.
Key responsibilities will include working directly with women who have experienced domestic abuse in one-to-one and group settings, providing person-centred and led support.
Applicants should possess excellent communication skills, be self-motivated and flexible, and have proven experience of supporting women in a similar environment.
The ideal candidate would have:
1. The post requires applicants to hold an SQA qualification in domestic abuse advocacy (IDAA), or be willing to work towards this qualification.
2. Experience of working with MARAC.
3. Applicants should have an understanding of domestic abuse and violence against women.
4. Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to participate in training and informing external groups and services on the various aspects of domestic abuse and VAWG.
5. Have a full UK licence and the use of a car.
6. Be willing to go through training to become a Freedom Programme facilitator.
7. PVG membership.
8. Up-to-date knowledge of legislation surrounding domestic abuse.
Post open to women only in accordance with Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 Work Occupational Requirement Exception.
The successful candidate will work within a progressive, focused team and will participate in increasing and expanding the outreach of our services into the community. Full induction training will be provided.
