Join Our Team as a Multi-Skilled Gas Porter – Delivering Excellence in Maintenance & Gas Services
Are you a hands-on professional with experience in gas porterage, multi-trade work, or building maintenance? This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team, ensuring the safe handling, storage, and maintenance of industrial gas supplies while performing a variety of maintenance tasks across the DSTL Estate.
Join our team as a Multi-Skilled Gas Porter and be part of a dynamic workforce responsible for gas porterage, maintenance, and repair tasks across the DSTL Estate. This role involves handling and changing gas cylinders, maintaining industrial gas stock levels, generating accurate stock reports, and ensuring continuous supply while keeping storage areas secure, organized, and compliant with regulations.
In addition to gas porterage, you will carry out a variety of maintenance and repair tasks, including minor plumbing work, building repairs, grounds work, drainage tasks, patch plastering, tiling, floor laying, decorating, replacing internal and external doors, and window repairs. You will work on refurbishment projects as well as planned and reactive maintenance, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard. With minimal supervision, you will be expected to make informed decisions on the most appropriate repair solutions and ensure that all work is completed efficiently.
Safety and compliance are key aspects of this role. You will be responsible for performing risk assessments, ensuring that all Health & Safety documentation (RAMS) is in place before beginning any tasks, and staying up to date with training requirements. Attending Toolbox Talks, team briefs, and technical bulletins will be part of your ongoing development. Additionally, you will escort deliveries and associated trades as needed.
Strong customer service skills and teamwork are essential. You will work closely with colleagues, liaise with customers and supply chain members, and play a role in mentoring apprentices when required. Maintaining van stock and contributing to improving right-first-time fixes will be part of your responsibilities. You will also use both electronic and paper-based systems to accurately record work, materials, and other relevant documentation.
You must be able to pass SC Clearance to be considered for this role.
You must be a British National to be eligible for this role.
What You’ll Bring:
To be successful in this role, you will need a full UK driving licence, an NVQ Level 2 qualification in a trade-related field, and experience working in multi-trade maintenance or on a construction site. Previous experience with industrial gas handling and porterage is preferred but not essential. The role requires the ability to use hand tools, work in all weather conditions, follow both written and verbal instructions, and demonstrate strong communication skills. As this position involves work on a secure site, British National status and the ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC level) are required.
