The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated professional to support Lumen’s Internet peering and interconnection strategy in the North American region.
This individual will join the Product Management team and play a pivotal role in helping to shape the regional interconnection strategy to align with Lumen's requirements and broader global strategic objectives. They will be responsible for both negotiating and maintaining relationships with our interconnection partners along with supporting teams on strategic customers within the region to implement the strategy. This is a role that bridges the commercial and technical sides of the business. The successful candidate will be capable of interfacing with multiple areas of the business to support sales, product, commercial, network architecture, engineering and implementation teams.
Location
This role is designated as a fully remote position within the United States.
The Main Responsibilities
1. Manage Internet peering/interconnection relationships and related contracts.
2. Negotiate with carriers, ISPs and network operators for interconnect capacity and other programs related to traffic exchange.
3. Communicate progress and strategy internally and collaborate with a wide variety of internal teams including product, business development, legal, network architecture, network planning, and executive leadership.
4. Support customer facing sales and account teams as a subject matter expert on Internet connectivity.
5. Coordinate regional interconnection strategy and anticipate impacts at a global scale.
6. Effectively utilise network performance data and cost models to understand and optimise traffic flows, network performance and the cost of interconnecting networks.
7. Work closely with internal and external provisioning teams to ensure that peering connections are upgraded in a timely and effective manner.
8. Cultivate relationships with key Lumen customers by engaging in discussions regarding our interconnection strategy. Through these dialogues, identify opportunities for enhancing interconnection capabilities.
9. Represent Lumen with regulators and in public forums/conferences to promote fair interconnection between network operators that supports the continued growth of an open Internet.
What We Look For in a Candidate
1. 7+ years of experience in technical, product, or commercial roles within the Internet/telecoms industry with specific experience of operating within the Internet interconnection ecosystem.
2. Strong understanding of the technical and commercial aspects underpinning a global network.
3. Extensive experience with supplier/customer negotiations and contract management.
4. Effective data-driven analysis and problem-solving skills (scripting/data science skills are a benefit).
5. Knowledge of the IP transit, DIA, and CDN ecosystems.
6. Able to undertake moderate travel as required and represent Lumen at industry events.
7. Excellent communication skills, with both internal and external parties.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$103,711 - $138,281 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY.
$108,896 - $145,195 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI.
$114,082 - $152,109 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
