We are offering an exciting opportunity for a risk professional to play an integral role within the Corporate Governance Team. We are looking for a passionate and highly skilled individual, with significant experience of risk management in a healthcare setting.
Working alongside the Assistant Director of Corporate Governance & Risk, the Risk Manager will take a lead role in ensuring that there is a comprehensive, effective and regularly maintained risk management function in place across the organisation, providing specialist expert advice, support and leadership for risk management, risk assessment and risk-based training.
WAST is a national service and the Corporate Governance Team are representative of this, working in a hybrid manner in North, South and Mid Wales, with bases in St Asaph, Cwmbran and Swansea. As a result, we are flexible in the ways we work and the location of the successful candidate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support and work collaboratively with operational teams and corporate directorates providing organisational leadership for risk management programmes and assurance across the Trust, promoting a positive culture of compliance and risk awareness.
1. Support colleagues to implement and maintain systems for risk management and take overall responsibility for preparations of risk assessments.
2. Drive delivery of the assurance and risk agenda to achieve organisational objectives, delivery of safe and effective services, and compliance with legislation and standards.
3. Work closely with the Assistant Director of Corporate Governance & Risk to jointly lead on the development/implementation of a comprehensive risk management training programme, enabling delivery of the risk management agenda and reporting, and to ensure appropriate levels of competence around risk management exists and is embedded across all areas.
4. Develop and maintain strong, influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide robust mechanisms of assurance that risk management is embedded and evidenced in WAST becoming a trusted strategic partner in NHS Wales and system influencer in the risk management arena.
5. Be a positive role model and have a broad knowledge and technical understanding of risk management and assurance, have excellent communication and organisation skills and the ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.

Qualifications
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent demonstrable level of experience, skills and knowledge in a relevant field.
* Evidence of relevant continuing managerial and professional development with appropriate post graduate/management qualifications.
* Specialist knowledge to post graduate diploma level of risk and assurance underpinned by theory and experience.
* Qualification in governance or risk management.
* Training and facilitation experience or qualification.
* Member of relevant professional body (e.g. IRM).
Knowledge
* Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and evidence-based assurance systems.
* Understanding of NHS risk management processes and practice including risk appetite/tolerance, board assurance framework.
* Understanding of confidentiality based on data protection/GDPR and Caldicott principles.
* Working knowledge of Datix or other risk information management systems.
* The postholder will require good keyboard skills to utilise IT software systems such as Microsoft Office 365 packages, Power BI, and Corporate Governance systems including but not limited to SharePoint administration.
Experience
* Significant experience of risk management/assurance within the NHS or large public sector organisation.
* Experience of risk management and assurance at Board and Executive level.
* Experience of delivering training programmes (in particular risk and/or assurance).
* Experience of writing formal reports for Committees.
* Experience of presenting reports to managers and clinical leaders.
* Excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, and able to work to right deadlines and under pressure whilst managing own workload.
* Experience of developing procedures and guidance documents.
* Experience of working at a senior management level.
* Experience of working within a public sector/health service organisation.
