We are looking for a positive, approachable person to be the face of Paradykes in our school office. As a school, we are committed to building strong, nurturing relationships with all in our community. The office is the first port of call to staff and children within the school and visitors to the building, and we want our nurturing ethos to be reflected in every interaction. The ability to be calm and empathetic is vital.
The office is the busy hub and heart of our school and the ability to work within this environment, to prioritise tasks through the day, and to meet deadlines is vital. Working as part of a team, whether that is with our experienced office administrator, our Senior Leadership Team or our Parent Council, should be a key strength of any applicant.
As well as being a personable individual, the role of Office Support Assistant should be confident in ICT skills and have impeccable organisational abilities. ICT tasks will include, but not be limited to; writing emails and letters, creating and updating spreadsheets and enrolling pupils in both school and nursery. Applicants should ideally be familiar with SEEMiS and NAMS computer systems.
KNOWLEDGE
Essential
1. Evidence of competency in literacy and numeracy skills such as a minimum of three standard grades level 3 passes or above to include Mathematics and English or equivalent. SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative.
2. Some practical experience or demonstration of competency in the use of word processing and standard PC software packages.
3. Demonstrable competency in keyboard and clerical skills; SVQ 2 or equivalent is an acceptable alternative.
4. Experience in a similar office environment, with a working knowledge of modern office equipment would be desirable.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 31.25 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £19,377.01 per annum.
Requirements
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children. Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children. You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
