Main duties of the job
* The consultant will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and in partnership with colleagues working for the proper function of the department and hospital.
* To attend relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
* To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of outpatient clinics.
* There is an expectation of collaborative working with the other haematology consultants to provide a comprehensive haematology service for the whole of mid and south Essex.

Job responsibilities
The Trust is currently working to enable the service to be clinically driven and led by the new MSE Pathology Group model supported with an effective management structure and clear lines of governance accountable for timely delivery of high quality, safe and cost effective pathology service all in line with the recommendation made by Lord Carter. Haematology is the main clinical specialty within Pathology. There are clinically driven plans for subspecialisation in haematology with an aim to strive for excellence in malignant and non-malignant haematology service delivery across MSE.
The transformation investment will enable, amongst others:
* Promote local improvement and performance
* Remove unwarranted variation of services
* Drive Quality and Governance throughout to improve patient experience and outcomes.

* Development of the 5-10 year plan to support the organisation

* To contribute to the leadership and development and organisation of Haematology services in line with the Trust's business plans for quality activity and business targets.
* To ensure that all staff work within the Trust's framework for corporate governance including standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
* To promote interdisciplinary team working across the Trust.
* The post holder will contribute to effective communication and involvement of staff across the CSU including support to the service manager and Head of Nursing to achieve their objectives.
* Contribute to multi-professional and undergraduate and post-graduate education, including teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, across the Division.
Person Specification
Experience
* CCT Qualification or within 6 months of CCT date
* Clinical Haematology experience
* Laboratory experience
Qualifications
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Medicine
Skills
* Excellent communication skills; proven ability to differentiate as required
