Main duties of the job
As a Head Chef at Barchester, you will lead, motivate, and inspire a team to deliver exceptional dining experiences for the residents. You will be responsible for menu development, using fresh produce to create high-quality and wholesome dishes, baking fresh cakes, scones, and breads, and working closely with the front-of-house team to ensure a warm, efficient, and fun environment. You will also oversee the kitchen's performance, manage the team's recruitment and retention, and work within a budget, completing regular audits and stock control.

1. Leading, motivating, and inspiring a team, developing and upskilling where required.
2. Menu development tailored around residents to ensure person-centred hospitality.
3. Working with fresh produce to deliver high-quality and wholesome dishes cooked to the highest standards.
4. Baking fresh cakes, scones, and breads from scratch.
5. Assisting the front-of-house team with setting up dining areas.
6. Working within budget, completing regular audits and stock control.
7. Creating a warm, efficient, and fun environment.
8. Ongoing recruitment and retention.
9. Managing the performance of the kitchen team and front of house.
Your Experience and Qualifications
A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents is essential. You should hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent, have experience in leading, motivating, and inspiring a team, and have a good understanding of nutrition and working with fresh, seasonal food. Experience working with a front-of-house team, a good understanding of HACCP and COSHH, and knowledge of modified diets using the IDDSI framework are also required.
