An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Division of Medicine on Ward 24 for a dedicated, enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced nurse to join our dynamic, patient-focused team as the Ward Manager on a 12-month secondment basis covering maternity leave.
Ward 24 is a 23-bedded general medical ward within the trust. The ideal candidate will confidently and supportively lead the team, share our passion for delivering the highest quality care, provide excellent patient experience, and be committed to continuous improvement.
Main duties of the job
The post will be pivotal in providing the clinical expertise required to ensure safe and effective inpatient care of the highest standards. You must be able to demonstrate a good level of enquiry, excellent communication and organisational skills, with good knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and current NHS issues.
The main duties of this role include:
1. Day-to-day management of the ward, coordinating, allocating, and prioritising the workload so that staff and resources are used efficiently, contributing to the smooth running of the ward.
2. Training, supervision, and appraisal of team members.
3. Ensuring safe staffing levels, producing a safe, fair, and effective roster, and managing sickness and absence in line with the trust's attendance management policy.
4. Maintaining and monitoring systems for ensuring staff compliance with mandatory training.
5. Collaborating with all members of the wider team to ensure efficient running of the ward and safe patient journey.
6. Overseeing the ward budget and monitoring and controlling expenditure and use of resources.
7. Further line management responsibilities, including formal disciplinary, grievances, and other meetings relevant to your management role.

A minimum of 5 years post-registration experience and a minimum of 2 years leadership experience or equivalent.
