Practising autonomously as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner / Triage Nurse providing optimum care for patients presenting with undifferentiated and un-diagnosed injuries and responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care is provided to all patients. To hold clinical responsibility for autonomously assessing, examining,diagnosing and managing/discharging patients attending the Minor Injuries Departmentwithin the scope of practice of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner or Triage Nurse. To give specialist advice as required within the department to outsideagencies and the general public. Is responsible for the safe discharge of the patients from the Minor Injuries Department or to other specialties e.g., Orthopaedic/ Medical ward/Paediatrics/ENT without reference to a Doctor. Main duties of the job To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professional practice including the management of patients in your care. To demonstrate Specialist Knowledge as a Nurse Practitioner, across a range of clinical procedures that is underpinned by theoretical knowledge and experience. The Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP)/ Triage Nurse will have extended skills to order the appropriate clinical investigations to support initial diagnosis e.g. x-rays, blood tests. To interpret and analyse clinical data. The ENP / Triage Nurse has the authority to refer to on call specialist teams, i.e., Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology,Medical, Paediatrics and ENT. To prescribe, administer and supply medication as an independent prescriber (without reference to a Doctor) or the use of PGD's (administer and supply an approved list of medicines according to locally agreed patient group directions). To undertake special projects as delegated by the Matron such as case review. Facilitate the teaching and training of junior staff and new nurse practitioners. Complex facts or situations, requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison or a range of options. Skills for assessing and interpreting specialist acute & other patient conditions, appropriate action. Prescribe medication as detailed in personal formula.
