Fantastic opportunities have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s NW team as a Geotechnical Asset Inspector in Perth or Inverness (full time).
About the North West Trunk Road Unit
The unit spans approximately 1,422km of trunk roads through scenic parts of the country, including 1,501 bridges and structures such as the Kessock Bridge (A9 north of Inverness) and the A87 Skye Crossing. It covers a vast area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the Highlands to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, and from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.
Role Responsibilities
1. Undertake weekly daytime safety inspections for geotechnical assets (rock slopes, earthwork slopes, land slopes, rock netting) to identify defects and monitor potential risks or hazards, recommending further assessments or repairs.
2. Conduct visual condition inspections to assess the state of geotechnical assets, identify defects for monitoring, and validate inventory data in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System.
3. Report findings on the condition and characteristics of geotechnical assets to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Applicants must be subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland due to public interaction. Prior experience in geotechnical asset inspections is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided. Candidates should have good computer skills, especially with data capture devices, and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is beneficial. A full, approved driving license is essential.
