Prototype & Sample Maker – Passionate About Product Design
Hoad & More Central Bedfordshire, England, United Kingdom
Join our innovative design studio and bring ideas to life!
Are you a hands-on maker with an eye for precision and a passion for product design? We’re looking for a talented Prototype & Sample Maker to join our small but dynamic design studio workshop. If you love working with materials, experimenting with processes, and bringing ideas to life, this could be the perfect role for you.
About Us
At Hoad & More, we design and craft bespoke lighting pieces, statement luminaires, and unique customisable products for the world’s leading luxury hotels, developers, and interior designers. Our studio thrives on creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation, putting quality at the heart of everything we do.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly creative and fast-paced environment, where you’ll have the chance to develop your skills and contribute to extraordinary projects.
The Role
We’re looking for someone with a maker’s mindset — whether you’re a designer who loves hands-on prototyping or a machinist with an interest in design. You’ll be producing and assembling prototypes and samples, working with a variety of materials and finishes, and using technology such as 3D printing, CNC, and engraving machines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Crafting one-off prototypes and samples using different materials and finishes.
2. Reading and interpreting design drawings with accuracy.
3. Measuring, inspecting, and refining work with attention to detail.
4. Operating and maintaining workshop machinery safely and efficiently.
5. Applying a pragmatic approach to problem-solving in the prototyping process.
6. Keeping the workshop clean, organised, and efficient.
7. Working independently and collaboratively in a small, flexible team.
8. Assisting with preparing and setting up exhibitions and shows.
9. Occasionally helping with delivery and installation as needed.
10. Managing time effectively in a fast-paced, high-quality production environment.
11. Having patience and perseverance for the trial-and-error process involved in creating bespoke designs.
What We’re Looking For
1. A strong passion for making, materials, and manufacturing processes.
2. Experience working around machinery and tools.
3. A self-motivated, hands-on approach with a problem-solving mindset.
4. Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
5. Knowledge of Fusion 360 is a plus—but we’re happy to support learning.
Location & Accessibility
Our studio is based in the beautiful countryside near Leighton Buzzard, so we’re looking for someone who can easily commute to our workshop.
Why Join Us?
1. Work on exciting, high-end design projects.
2. Be part of a creative, skilled, and supportive team.
3. Develop your expertise with materials and technology.
4. Enjoy a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.
If you’re passionate about making and eager to work in a highly creative environment, we’d love to hear from you!
To apply, send your CV and a short cover letter detailing your experience and why you’d be a great fit for this role.
