Job Title: Strategic Finance & Insights Analyst\n\nLocation: North East London \n\nDepartment: Finance/Business Operations\n\nReports to: Chief Operating Officer\n\nEmployment Type: Part-Time, 3 days, Hybrid.\n\nRole Summary\n\nBurman Recruitment are seeking a highly analytical and strategic Finance & Insights Analyst to join our client. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of finance, data, and strategy, someone who can scope complex work, analyse data, extract insights, assess funding sources, and drive performance improvement through meaningful metrics and financial reporting.\n\nThe successful candidate will support strategic planning and decision-making by delivering high-quality analysis and reporting, identifying areas for operational or financial improvement, and helping define key deliverables for business initiatives.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n1. Work Scoping & Planning\n\nCollaborate with stakeholders to define the scope, objectives, and deliverables for strategic initiatives.\n\nBreak down complex business problems into actionable workstreams.\n\n2.
Data Analysis & Insight Generation\n\nAnalyse financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.\n\nUse tools such as Excel, SQL, or BI platforms (Power BI/Tableau) to create meaningful insights.\n\nTranslate findings into actionable recommendations and reports.\n\n3. Financial Reporting\n\nPrepare, maintain, and improve regular financial reports for leadership teams.\n\nConduct variance analysis and explain key performance shifts.\n\nEnsure reporting is clear, accurate, and aligned with business goals.\n\n4. Strategic Deliverables\n\nDefine and manage key deliverables across financial and business initiatives (e.g., business cases, dashboards, process improvements).\n\nCollaborate across departments to ensure timely delivery.\n\n5.
Funding & Financial Source Assessment\n\nIdentify and evaluate sources of funding, including internal budgets, grants, or external investments.\n\nConduct ROI, cost-benefit, and break-even analysis to support strategic initiatives.\n\n6. Metrics & Performance Improvement\n\nDesign and maintain KPIs aligned with business strategy.\n\nMonitor performance against targets and benchmarks.\n\nProactively identify underperforming areas and suggest improvements.\n\nKey Skills & Experience\n\nBachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field.\n\n3+ years of experience in financial analysis, business strategy, or a related analytical role within Higher Education.\n\nStrong experience with Excel; proficiency in SQL and data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.\n\nStrong analytical and critical thinking skills.\n\nExcellent communication and data storytelling abilities.\n\nComfortable working independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.\n\nAbility to calculate students per staff head count. \nExperience in strategic finance, corporate planning, or consulting.\n\nKnowledge of financial planning systems or tools (e.g.
Adaptive Insights, Oracle, Agresso).\n\nExposure to budgeting processes and cost analysis in large or complex organisations
