ROLE SUMMARY:
Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as; Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities aboard such as the University of Chicago, UPenn, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.
Wetherby Senior are now looking for a head of Economics and Business to join them from September 2025. Economics and Business have been very popular subjects with over 60% of Year 12 boys choosing to study Economics or Business at A Level. There are currently five Economics teaching groups and four Business groups across Years 12 and 13. Economics and Business are only taught at A Level and Economics follows Edexcel exam board while Business follows the Eduqas exam board specification.
The department is committed to allowing boys to cultivate a deep understanding of the subject they study and an appreciation of how it interacts with other related disciplines and wider social issues. Through our teaching we aim to foster a passion in the boys for their subject and develop into mature, independent learners who engage with their subject at the deepest level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Plan and deliver engaging lessons that inspire and challenge all students and are in line with the school's curriculum, policies, and external assessment requirements.
* Regularly assess students' in-class and at-home learning, providing targeted feedback to drive progress.
* Establish a positive classroom and school environment where students feel valued and supported, and are ready to take risks in their learning.
* Work closely with colleagues as an active member of our learning community.
* Play an active role in the school's co-curricular programme, helping to create a well-rounded, enriching educational experience.
* Make an effective contribution to pastoral care in the School, including: being a Tutor to a group of boys to support their academic and personal development and undertaking supervisory duties in the school as required.
* Maintain open and constructive communication with parents, building strong partnerships that support students' progress.
* Oversee the department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning, and driving innovation in curriculum development.
* Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to department colleagues, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
* Lead the strategic direction of the department, managing resources efficiently, and ensuring alignment with the school's academic goals and broader vision.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
* PGCE, QTS, or equivalent, with excellent academic credentials and, ideally, evidence of post-graduate study.
* In-depth expertise in and passion for their subject and the ability to inspire students and support outstanding progress.
* Expertise in assessing student progress, providing targeted feedback, and enhancing student performance.
* Experience in providing pastoral care and promoting student wellbeing, with a strong focus on individual attention and high standards of welfare.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and independently.
* Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team.
* Strong decision-making skills and the ability to manage a department, ensuring excellence in teaching and student outcomes.
* Experience in curriculum development and department planning, with a track record of innovation and successful implementation.
