This post involves direct contact with children and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You are therefore required to declare whether you have any criminal convictions (or cautions, reprimands or warnings) including those which are ‘spent’. The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. Details of the filtering rules can be found on www.gov.uk/dbs. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website or see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/new-guidance-on-the-rehabilitation-of-offenders-act-1974.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.
If you are shortlisted, an online search may be carried out before interview which may identify any incidents or issues that have happened, and are publicly available online, which may indicate that you are unsuitable to work with children and that we might want to explore with you at interview. Please review our Privacy Notice on our website for the lawful basis for processing and retention.
WPMS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
