Rainbow ward is a busy, fast paced, acute Paediatric ward. We are looking to recruit a full time Health Care Assistant with experience in the hospital setting with the potential possibility of developing to a Band 3 HCA on completion of training.
Main duties of the job
The Healthcare Assistant will work as part of the ward team with supervision of registered practitioners to provide effective, safe patient focused care at all times.
* Contribute to the development of the care environment with a positive, professional attitude.
* Contribute to the maintenance of daily provision of service and care to meet the individual needs of patients and department.
* Support the smooth running of the ward and ensure patients, relatives and carers are dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner.
* Ensure that policies and guidelines are adhered to.
Job responsibilities
As a health care assistant, you play a vital role in delivering high standards of care to our patients and families. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all patients are cared for and treated with dignity and respect. Your duties will include:
* Assisting patients with personal hygiene.
* Assisting patients during meal times.
* Talking and listening to patients.
* Working in partnership with patients, carers, and the wider team.
* Providing direct care to the defined group of patients under the direction of the registered nurse.
* Assisting patients to undertake normal activities of daily living.
* Following care plans developed by the registered nurse.
* Reporting any changes in patients' condition, untoward incidents or accidents to the senior nurse immediately.
* Assisting with the maintenance of ward cleanliness.
* Assisting in maintaining stock levels.
* Assisting with the transportation of patients, equipment and supplies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of basic level qualification in English and Maths or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
Experience
* Previous experience of working within a care environment.
Skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Able to demonstrate a positive attitude and caring demeanor.
* Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour.
Knowledge
* An interest in healthcare services.
Additional
* Flexible and able to work on any ward and site within the Trust.
* Ability to work internal rotational shifts.
* Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
