Position Summary

Samsung Networks is an industry leader in Open RAN network deployments with commercial deployments in US, Asia, and European markets. We are expanding our Service portfolio to include System Integration Services and as a result, we will be creating a new team to lead these activities.
As part of our expansion in Europe, Samsung Networks UK is looking to hire an experienced and highly motivated System Integration ORAN Design Engineer to oversee the delivery of our System Integration Design package for a Tier 1 customer in Europe. You will manage and oversee the delivery of our Design obligations commencing in Q1 2025 and excel in the delivery of a complex Design process, delivering on all our commitments and ensuring maximum customer satisfaction as a result.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate who can demonstrate a proven track record in delivering complex IT and Core Telecommunications designs and has extensive experience in creating and maintaining highly satisfied customers.
This role is based in Reading but will require travel to other project and customer locations in the UK.
The onboarding timeline for this role is expected to be Q1 2025.
This is a permanent position reporting to the Head of Service & System Integration in the Samsung Networks European Organisation.
Role and Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities
* Responsible for creating the End to End ORAN High Level Design document for our ORAN customer, containing consolidated inputs from each one of the ORAN vendors.
* The HLD should capture application, compute, network, storage, security, orchestration, and high availability aspects.
* Own and create the Low Level Design document with inputs from each of the ORAN vendors; this document will be used as a reference for further system testing, so it is important that this is delivered to a high standard.
* As the ORAN Design lead, you will be responsible for coordinating the inputs from the other ORAN vendors; this will involve chairing the design workshops and review cycles to ensure a high-quality deliverable is maintained.
* Provide regular HLD and LLD progress updates and delivery milestones.
* Immediately notify the Samsung Project Delivery manager if there are any vendor delays or document quality input issues.
* Work closely with the System Integration Technical Architects to ensure the HLD and LLDs are fully aligned with the End to End Solution scope.
* Obtain customer sign off of the HLD and LLD documents before moving to the testing and implementation phases.
* Provide minor updates to the HLD and LLDs based on customer change requests post sign off.
What we need for this role
To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
* Experience in a Senior Design role in the telecom/IT sector.
* Proven track record in the delivery of complex large scale multi-vendor System Integration Design processes and documentation.
* Previous experience of designing multi-vendor network virtualization solutions such as Open RAN, virtualized RAN/Core.
* Proven customer and stakeholder management skills.
* Exceptional communicator both internally and towards the customer.
* Excellent organizational skills and an ability to anticipate customer’s needs and act accordingly.
* Excellent level of presentation, communication, and planning skills.
* Ability to prepare & deliver complex technical concepts to a high standard within tight timescales.
* Fluent in spoken and written English.
* Excellent documentation writing skills.
* Exceptional ability to navigate large and complex organizations to build relationships and influencing capabilities.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
What does success look like?
* You will have succeeded in developing an excellent understanding of the End to End ORAN design and be seen both internally and by our customer as the key go-to contact for ORAN Design topics.
* You will have developed and agreed a solid Design release process with the customer and 3rd party ORAN vendors, including the internal Samsung technical teams.
* You will have structured the Design governance with the customer and developed the means to communicate timeline adherence to ensure documentation is delivered on time as per the Project milestones.
* You will have maintained the HLD and LLD documents and change tracking so that all design decisions are clearly visible for audit review purposes.
The interview process
Following the screening of candidate CVs, there will be a 2-stage recruitment process covering technical and suitability topics.
The technical interview will involve candidates demonstrating their in-depth knowledge and experience of delivering complex Telco and IT System Designs. You will be assessed on your technical knowledge, organizational capability, and customer focus. Particular interest will be placed upon how you structured your previous design processes. We will ask you to illustrate how your past roles and experience make you a great fit for this role.
The suitability interview will involve a wider review of the candidate’s suitability and availability to accept the role if offered and their motivation to join Samsung. It will cover topics such as understanding of the role, flexibility to work at various project or customer locations, and cultural “fit” into a small highly motivated team.
