We are working together with a Design & Build workplace design company who is seeking a Head of Sustainability and Environment to join this exciting company. The company is based in London in a super cool and creative studio.
They are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking leader to head their Sustainability & Environmental team. This person will play a key role in giving advice, creating strategies, and helping us win new projects.
The Head of Sustainability and Environment will lead the company’s efforts to create and carry out plans for environmental care and sustainability. This role involves developing and upholding policies and projects that support environmental responsibility, meet legal standards, and promote sustainable practices throughout the business, with support from their team of specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
* Making clients happy by providing a high-quality, accessible, and professional experience with the company, focusing on sustainability and environmental care.
* Building a happy team by leading effectively, fostering strong relationships with team members and external partners, and engaging with everyone in a positive way.
* Achieving our financial goals by meeting and, where possible, exceeding the companies targets, helping us win new projects and keep existing clients.
* Responsible for setting and guiding the direction of the Environmental and Sustainability strategy.
* Promote a positive culture of environmental and sustainability awareness across the organization.
* Get support from management and leadership to make sustainability a priority in the business.
* Position the company as a leader in sustainability, environmental responsibility, and social purpose.
* Align the company’s business goals with the team’s goals and overall strategy.
* Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to the team.
* Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for the team and external partners.
* Make sure that sustainability and environmental practices are built into every part of the company’s Business System and put into action completely.
* Provide a yearly update to the Leadership team on sustainability efforts to help shape the company’s annual report.
* Spot new trends in sustainability and recommend creative ways to improve the company’s environmental efforts.
* Lead the use of new technologies and systems that help achieve sustainability goals.
* Promote and support the energy management system certified under ISO 50001.
* Make sure the organization follows environmental laws and rules at all levels—local, national, and international.
* Provide resources and put measures in place to control and reduce any identified environmental risks.
* Keep up with new environmental laws and standards, and ensure the organization adjusts quickly when these change.
* Actively support and promote the organization's environmental management system, which is certified under ISO 14001.
* Supervise the companies teams to make sure they reach sustainability and environmental goals.
* Connect with potential clients to share the companies journey in sustainability and the environment. This helps others understand our services and perspectives.
* Become part of a project team for pitches and presentations whenever needed to help win new projects or keep existing ones.
* You will need to travel to different places and the companies different offices once a month or every other month.
* You will also need to work in areas where safety rules and protective gear are necessary.
Requirements:
* Experience with ISO Management Systems: Familiar with ISO 14001, 9001, 50001, and 45001, preferably in a similar industry.
* Team Leadership: Strong skills in leading and managing a team.
* Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment where challenges are met with solutions.
* Positive Attitude: Energetic, driven, and proactive; shows initiative.
* Communication Skills: Great at talking and working with others.
* Time Management: Can effectively organize time and resources to achieve team and project goals.

* Sustainability Experience: Background in sustainability, environmental management, or a related area.
* Demonstrate a flexible approach to work, including willingness to travel and work long hours if necessary.

* Experience in working in Design and Build workplace sector.
Qualifications:
* Having relevant certifications like BREEAM Accredited Professional, ISO 14001 Auditor, or Certified Sustainability Professional is a plus.
* A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related subject is required.
