Address: London (Euston). We’re an office-based organisation and staff are expected to be in the office as default five days a week.
The Science Media Centre is looking for someone who works well under pressure and is confident in everyday office tech for the role of Operations and Executive Assistant. The successful applicant will act as PA to the Chief Executive, administer the internship programme, and take responsibility for office admin to ensure the SMC runs smoothly.
You will be someone with outstanding organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, strong initiative, and a clear head. The right candidate for this job will also have strong skills in IT fixes and be able to act quickly on their feet to problem-solve. We’re looking for a resourceful individual who can do a dozen things at once and who will thrive on supporting and organizing a very busy and technically-challenged CEO in a fast-paced environment.
This is not a press office assistant role and it does not directly involve media work. But we are an inclusive team in an exciting, immersive office and everything you do will support the core work of the CEO and front-line staff of the Science Media Centre, as we work to get the voices of scientists into the media to provide expert opinion on controversial scientific issues and breaking news. This is a great entry-level role for a person who is broadly interested in working in science communications but is not yet sure what side of it they’d like to go into.
Applicants must have a pre-existing right to work full time in the UK as we unfortunately cannot sponsor visas.
You can find the Operations and Executive Assistant role profile here.
If you wish to apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to jobs@sciencemediacentre.org detailing why you want this particular role and how you fit the role requirements. Your covering letter should not be more than one side of A4 long.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Georgia Michelman at georgia@sciencemediacentre.org.
