Job Description Nuclear Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineering Technician Apprenticeship - Level 3 Starting salary: £16,666 Locations: Derby with some travel to Sheffield Duration: typically 36 months - Trainees must be 17 years of age on commencement of the programme Our Nuclear Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineering Technician Apprenticeship will give you the skills, qualifications and experience needed to help us design, make, verify, and support the operation of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plants (NSRP), providing power to all of the UK Royal Navy’s nuclear submarines. What you’ll do You’ll spend three years gaining experience in our Defence Submarines business and also traveling to off-site training with our partner, Lavender International Training in Sheffield. From the moment you join us, you’ll be in your role, training on the job to gain a strong foundation in the practical skills you need. As you become an expert in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) you’ll learn the cutting-edge methods – including ultrasonics, radiography, and eddy current testing – we use to detect cracks and other imperfections in manufactured components. It’s a vital role, and you’ll be comprehensively trained in how to inspect safety-critical components, materials and equipment destined for nuclear reactors and submarines within the UK’s fleet. All of these experiences will equip you to complete your apprenticeship as an engineering technician with a huge range of opportunities ahead of you. What you’ll need You’ll need a minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) which must include Maths at grade 5/B, plus English Language, Science and one other subject at grade 4/C (obtained or predicted). To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance.
