Reporting to the Head Keeper, you are responsible for managing the Estates pheasant shoot and vermin control within the Estate’s woodlands in accordance with Estate guidance. Confidentiality in all matters related to the Estate and family is essential. Game Keeping Main duties and responsibilities Responsible for Health and safety of self and others; including COSHH & Risk Assessments Liaise with forestry department regarding forestry operations and potential improvement to sporting interests in the short and long term Manage the habitat to benefit game and wildlife In agreement with the Headkeeper order poults, feed and medication Monitor game birds at all times whilst in a release pen or in the ‘wild’ Achieve highest welfare standards including best practise during release of game birds, including appropriate and sufficient food/fresh water/shelter Report any notifiable disease to the Head Keeper and seek veterinary advice Carry out effective legal predator and vermin control to a standard commensurate with that expected on the moor operating a ‘beat’ beyond the confines of the ‘drives’ to include a comprehensive programme specifically targeting squirrels, rabbits and hares for the benefit of all the trees within the beat Build and maintain the required infrastructure to operate the pheasant shoot (tracks, pens, traps, stiles etc.) Seek to build the profile of the Estate’s pheasant shoot as a premium sporting destination Participate in Shoot days, running the beating line on pheasant days as required, being mindful of shooters, beaters, flankers, loaders, dog handlers Gather information to support licence applications and licence reporting. Initiative to work as a team player or alone in accordance with the lone working policy Work in conjunction with the grouse keepering team under direction from the headkeeper Be physically capable of carrying out duties Responsible for maintaining property of the Estate Must ensure that your Estate vehicle is kept clean, and report immediately any damage, faults or problems. Uphold countryside legislation, particularly Wildlife and Countryside Act Ensure PPE is maintained and worn as necessary and report any faults Work with and respect farmers/stewardship agreements Welfare of animals in the keepers care Respectful of principals’ and all other guests Present an appropriate image for the Estate Be polite to the public Honest & show integrity Qualifications and experience required Current shotgun/firearms licence Driving Licence Health and Safety aware Have an understanding of the codes of practice in relation to wildlife management Necessary qualifications applicable to best practice standard for deer and vermin control Experience preferred Use of digital mapping system
