Summary The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of complex mechanical and chemical tests and verifications using various equipment, while providing accuracy, productivity and on-time delivery. The role directly reports to the Module Manager for Composites. Responsibilities - Conduct all testing duties and set tasks in a timely and positive manner to support the Laboratory in achieving defined targets & goals. - Set up test equipment (including DMA monthly calibration) and perform testing in accordance with internal and external specifications. - Monitor and record test area conditions on a daily basis and take actions if any of the conditions are out of tolerance defined within work instruction. - Prepare test specimens as required for Q.C testing in accordance with laboratory procedures. - Conduct non-destructive and destructive Q.C. testing of raw materials and component test pieces. - Use of cutting machines for cutting test samples. - Lay up of composite test panels and shear test specimens. - Immediately report any anomalies/test failures that could affect production to the superiors. - Follows written and verbal instructions and adheres to all company guidelines, policies and procedures. - Perform daily safety checks upon related laboratory equipment & plant and document results as necessary in accordance with Company policies. - Compile and maintain up to date information on laboratory test results database. - Amend laboratory procedures to reflect changes in specification or to stay up to date with latest testing standards. Qualifications - Skilled in use of test equipment, hand tools, power tools, band saw, etc. - Ability to read and interpret work instructions, procedures, specifications, engineering drawings and sketches. - Able to solve problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents and/or procedures/scientific methods. - Effective oral and written communication skills and attention to detail. - Skilled in preparing test pieces for material validation. - Proficient in using MS Office and equipment related software. - Able to use thermal analysis instruments (DSC, DMA). - Skilled in setting up and performing testing using chemicals and solvents. - Proficient in using SAP and Q-Pulse for material movements, accessing test procedures and material specifications.
